TrailBound Project: Map & Compass Navigation

Registration is closed for this event
We are partnering with The TrailBound Project Outdoor School to provide free intro-level courses to help prepare you for your next adventure!

About The TrailBound Project:

The vision of TBP is to inspire and help those who wish to experience the wilderness safely by teaching them the necessary skills through our courses & challenges, resulting in a fun and memorable experience.

TrailBounders share a passion for the outdoors and a craving to experience all that comes with it. However, heading into the wilderness safely and efficiently is a skill that takes education, time, and dedication to accomplish. To that end, we created a school that provides the tools for novices and experts alike to rapidly improve their confidence and skills.

About the course:

Have you ever gone off-trail to relieve yourself and wondered what you would do if you got turned around?

Can you trust yourself to take a quick off-trail shortcut to get back to your vehicle before a thunderstorm rolls in?

Maybe you’ve been telling yourself you would learn map & compass navigation for just such an occasion, but the opportunity never presented itself? This is your chance to attend a free introductory workshop on map & compass given by Search and Rescue personnel.

We’ll go over all the parts and features of the compass as well as how to travel along an azimuth (bearing) to get to that secret waterfall or beautiful view. Attention to detail of your compass stance, accuracy in sighting landmarks, and overall proper technique will be emphasized. The workshop will come full circle by showing you how to use your map and compass to give you a surefire way to get home even if you get... slightly misplaced.

A map and compass will be provided for use during class.
