Rigging for Trail Work Workshop

Registration is closed for this event
Ever wonder how trail builders move large stone and logs to build trail structures? Join us to learn how!

Rigging, or tools and systems used to transport materials in construction, is an extremely efficient way for trail workers to move rocks or other extremely heavy objects without motorized equipment, sometimes over long distances or over extremely rugged terrain. Employing these equipment and methods can save work, maximize safety, and minimize construction disturbances.

This part classroom/part field-based workshop will familiarize participants with griphoist winches and associated equipment as well as rope belay devices. It will cover concepts necessary for their safe/effective application, as well as hands-on field practice in how to use them in various configurations such as simple drags, controlled lowering, and highline systems. Proper care and maintenance of equipment will also be covered.

This workshop is limited to participants 18 years of age or older.
