Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area opening new beach on New Jersey side this summer

Body

Turtle Beach, a new swimming area, has opened at the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. It replaces the former Depew Recreation Site.

It is the park's first swimming area on the New Jersey side of the Delaware since the Depew site was destroyed.

The existing swimming areas are Milford Beach off Route 209 on the northern end of the park and Smithfield Beach off River Road toward the southern end.

The park service said it will also feature picnicking and hiking trails.

Turtle Beach is seven miles north of Interstate 80 on Old Mine Road in Hardwick Township, further south than its predecessor.
