Cross the road at the northern end of the parking area. On the opposite side, enter the woods at a sign for the Orchard Trail, climb stone steps, and follow this orange-blazed trail uphill on a moss-covered woods road, passing abandoned fields now starting to regenerate.

In 0.6 mile, after paralleling a wide stone wall on the right, the Orchard Trail ends at a junction with the...

Still a beautiful hike, but.....
I did this hike again on Aug. 3, 2017. The hike was still beautiful and scenic after you crossed the road to where the falls are. Once you go under the power lines, everything was so overgrown, that you could not get through it. We had to turn around and ended up walking on a paved road about a mile back to where the car was parked.

Update - Must take alternative path
<p>This trail is open well maintained, however, the bridge connecting the end of the Van Campens Glen Trail to the Watergate Picnic Area has been washed out. The trail now slowly closes off into a thicket of thorn bushes and the footbridge is no longer there. Use the following adaptation:</p> <p style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 14.592000007629395px; color: #fd1f01; background-color: #edefd9;"><span style="color: #111111; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 14.592000007629395px; background-color: #edefd9;">When you reach&nbsp;the abandoned Cutoff Road, turn left and follow the road for about 500 feet. Just before a bridge over the brook, turn right and follow the trail along the brook.&nbsp;</span><span style="color: #111111; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 14.592000007629395px; background-color: #edefd9;">The&nbsp;terrain now becomes flatter, and the trail moves away from the brook. </span><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span style="color: #111111; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 14.592000007629395px; text-decoration: underline; background-color: #edefd9;">Just before crossing under large powerlines, there is a small service &nbsp;road, turn left on this road, cross an old slatted brdige and continue about 100 feet to Old Mine Road. Turn right and continue along the paved road about 500 feet until you see the entrance to grassy Watergate Picnic Area on your right. Turn right into the picnic are and proceed straight ahead, folloing the grassy area as it curves through the far end of the park.</span></span></p> <p><span style="color: #111111; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 14.592000007629395px; background-color: #edefd9;">Follow this road for half a mile as it curves left and parallels the brook passing various historic buildings, to Millbrook Village, where the hike began.</span></p>
