National Trails Day: High Point State Park Challenge Hike

Share your love of trails at our National Trails Day® with a guided hike!

On this 6-mile hike, south on the Appalachian Trail will take the group to Rutherford Shelter. There will be beautiful views along the way. A good hike for adults and older children (with adult). Dogs welcome on leash per park rules. There are some challenging parts of the trail, but the pace will not be too quick. Before or after the hike, take the opportunity to drive up to the High Point Monument, atop the mountain’s summit which is dedicated to New Jersey’s veterans.

Dress for the weather, sturdy shoes/boots should be worn. Insect repellant and a bag lunch and water should be brought

Hike Guide: John Rovetto, is a Trail Conference volunteer maintainer and sawyer. John leads First Day, National Trails Day and Black Friday hikes in partnership with High Point/Stokes and New Jersey Search and Rescue where he runs the Preventing Search and Rescue (PSAR) program.
